Outreach Workshops - Winter 2026 - 2027
Bookings are now open for our winter outreach workshops, running from September 2026 to February 2027!
If a trip to the zoo isn't on the cards, let us bring the excitement of wildlife conservation and curriculum-linked learning directly to your classroom.
Our Outreach Workshops
Our practical, interactive workshops are designed for KS2 and KS3 learners, with a maximum of 32 students per session. Workshops last 45 minutes and are closely linked to the National Curriculum, using an engaging mix of props and multimedia. To deliver our workshops we need access to a classroom with a projector and Wi-Fi.
You can choose from the following workshop topics:
KS2
-
Nature in the North East (lower KS2) - Learn about species native to the North East and how to
identify and classify different mammals, amphibians, insects and birds. We’ll explore examples of positive and negative
human impacts in our region, and ways to help nature.
-
Evolution and Extinction (upper KS2) - Understand evolution through the study of fossils and other artefacts, and consider the changes and adaptations that help some animals to flourish, while others are under threat, or even extinct.
KS3
-
Wildlife and Climate Change - Explore the impacts of climate change on wildlife, investigating how ecosystems are under increasing pressure. We will look at how changes in temperatures and weather
patterns are impacting animal habitats and behaviours.
-
Conservation in Action - Learn about conservation projects locally and globally, including the challenges facing species and creative solutions to safeguard their future. We’ll consider the importance of maintaining biodiversity, and how scientific advances can safeguard species.
Please note: For our animals’ welfare, our outreach programme does not involve live animals in any capacity.
