Please leave your dogs at home!

We regret that no dogs, except assistance dogs, are allowed in the zoo.

At Northumberland Zoo, animal welfare is our top priority and it is for this reason that we do not allow guests’ dogs on site or to be left in cars in our car park.

Please read the RSPCA’s guidance here

Assistance Dogs

Please read our assistance dogs page for information.

Footpaths: Wheelchairs & Pushchairs

Please read our footpaths page for more information.

Accessibility

Between the car park and the entrance to the zoo, there is some loose stone. This stone makes it difficult for some children’s buggies & wheelchairs. Guests can park in front of the entrance whilst unloading/loading, but then the cars must be moved to the car park.

In the zoo, we regret that the ‘River Walk’ is not currently wheelchair friendly due to the steep inclines. However, the rest of the park pathways are made of a combination of concrete and tar planings. The loose tar planing's can make it difficult for some wheelchairs to manoeuvre. This is something which we are working on for the future.

Please read our accessibility page for more information.

Car Parking

Parking in the Northumberland Zoo is free. Overflow car parking is also available.

Facilities

There are toilets available at the entrance, opposite the cafe, near Wallaby Walkabout and next to the Adventure Land outdoor play area. All of these toilets include a disabled toilet and baby-changing facilities.

These can be seen on the Zoo Map.

Hand Washing Facilities

In addition to our toilet facilities, there is a hand washing area near to the Entrance of the Zoo and in our domestic farm animal area. Visitors are encouraged to wash their hands after eating and/or touching any of the animals.

Baby Food Warming

We have the facilities to warm baby food in the Bear Falls Cafe if you ask at the front desk and we would be happy to help.

Picnics

We are more than happy for you to bring along a picnic.

We have several designated outdoor areas for picnics:

  • Outside the Bear Falls Cafe

  • Next to Adventure Land play area

  • Opposite Wallaby Walkabout entrance

  • Domestics Farm Animal Area

We regret that Picnics are not allowed to be consumed in the cafe to save room for customers that have purchased food on-site.
